What Is Cholesterol?

First, Let's understand cholesterol and how it is good and harmful for our body. 

Cholesterol is a type of lipid or fat that is found in the blood. It is produced by the liver and is essential to build cell membranes,  for the functioning of certain types of digestive juices comprising of bile juice that aids in digestion.

Cholesterol is divided into three categories:

1. Ldl(Low-density Lipoprotein)- It is bad cholesterol. Too much LDL can cause the risk of various types of heart diseases, stroke, angina, peripheral vascular diseases, and so on.

2. Hdl ( High- High-density lipoprotein)- It is good cholesterol and is essential for our body functioning. It helps in removing bad cholesterol and reduces the risk of heart problems.

3. Triglycerides: This is not usually considered a form of cholesterol, but is a type of fat if present in high amounts in the bloodstream can cause heart stroke or heart disease.


How To Reduce Bad( LDL) Cholesterol Effectively?


Now, you've understood we need to reduce hdl cholesterol which is unhealthy and increases the risk of heart problems. So, we need to first take care of our lifestyle and the activities that usually contribute to bad cholesterol.

1. Stop eating oily or deep-fried food that is rich in trans fat such as french fries or any junk food. The amount of trans fat is not supported by our body and cannot be digested, which then starts accumulating in the form of plaque in the arteries, making them hardened and increasing the risk of heart stroke.

2. Avoid food cooked in saturated fats(vegetable oil): 

Cooking oils like vanaspati, and dalda are hydrogenated vegetable oils that must be avoided at any cost, as they drastically increase the risk of deposition of plaque in the arteries and accumulation of cholesterol.

3. Refraining from Junk Food: 

Junk food is mainly comprised of all the food items that are fried and contain refined flour in all its forms contributing to lowering your HDL level and increasing LDL levels in your blood. They also become the risk factors in developing diseases like diabetes, and thyroid problems.

4. Lack Of Physical Exercise:

Not making physical movements and living a sedentary lifestyle are some of the major factors why people are not able to burn their calories. Calories play a big role in the raising of bad cholesterol in the body. The food you eat contains a certain amount of calories if you consume food rich in fats and bad carbohydrates that are usually high in calories and do not make a physical effort to burn they significantly turn into fats in your body for a certain time and then eventually converted into cholesterol in the form of waste in your blood vessels. Thus, contributing to numerous heart-related diseases and many others.

5..Start eating food rich In Fibre, protein, Omega 3 fatty acids that improve good cholesterol and decrease bad cholesterol effectively.

6. Consume multi-grain atta not the maida( Refined flour). Multi-grain flour is rich in many essential nutrients that aid in digestion and improve the metabolism of your body.

7. Eating raw sprouts of fenugreek and green moong and you can also include all the legumes and lentils that lower your bad appetite and reduce cravings for sugar or junk food.

Cholesterol plays an essential role in our body. keeping in mind the consumption of certain food categories will help you manage the good cholesterol and reduce the bad cholesterol.  Exercising and mindful eating thus contribute to not only eliminating the risk of heart disease but also improving your over all health.
